Glow From The Inside Out: A Beginner’s Guide to Finding Your Light

This post is sponsored by Walmart, but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I attended an old college friend’s funeral last week. He was 37.  While laying to rest someone so young is indeed hard, we must always search for the silver lining, even when it feels impossible. Life is short. And as I inch closer and closer to mid-life I am all the more convinced that taking care of myself, in the limited (and unknown) amount time I have on this Earth, must happen both on the inside and the outside, from head to toe.

Finding your light or what sets your soul on fire is a process. There are no quick answers. No sure-fire remedies to steer you in the right direction. On the contrary, I’ve found that allowing life to unfold as intended is often the best way to gain clarity.

But we’re human. And we are impatient by nature. We want the answers now. This guide, however, is more about things you can do to allow yourself to trust the process, which will grant you an inner peace that will radiate from the inside to your exterior. Glow from the inside out, and from head to toe indeed!

Step 1. Wake up early

Tomorrow is not promised so if you’re given a new day, you better take it and begin it as early as you can.

Step 2. Establish a beauty routine that encompasses your entire body.

Yes, a splash of cool water on the face is a nice way to wake up, but take it a step further. Your face is the first thing people see when they meet you for the day. Heck, it’s the first thing you see when you look in the mirror. You better love that face; take care of that face.  Hydrate that face. Walmart has so many high-tier beauty offerings I hardly know where to begin, but when it comes to my face, I try my best to gravitate towards clean skincare. Walmart has several super impressive new skincare lines that offer clean, chemical-free products that will help to bring back the balance to your skin. You can banish dry or overly oily skin with a simple, but effective skincare routine.

My recommendations are from the new lines Cleen Beauty and Earth to Skin. From Glow Oils,  to Hydrating Creams, Eye Serums, Sheet Masksmoisturizing cleansersAnti-Aging starter kits, both of these lines offer the best in clean beauty without the high-end price tag.

Step 3. Breathe

No, really. Breathe. Everything and I do mean everything, is all right. Pause and force yourself to take deep and measured breathes throughout the day. Deep breathing stimulates the lymphatic system, which in turn helps to detoxify the body. It also almost instantly relaxes you. Nothing good comes from stress or anxiety. Remaining calm is the first step towards thinking clearly and thereby working towards your goals.

Step 4. Take luxurious baths

Tell Alexa to play your favorite tune and start with a bath (check out Dr. Teal’s Bath bombs)  or a shower and allow whatever tension you might be holding onto go down the drain. I like to grab my trusted bath and body products right from Walmart. I start with a natural soap, like Everyone 3-in-1 Soap for Kids Tropical Coconut Twist (The whole family uses this line since the ingredients are gentle and great for everyone’s skin, even the baby), followed by Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub for mild but effective exfoliation.

I finish my bath routine with an all-natural Hemp oil to seal in the moisture. And yes, I do this every day.

Step 5. Take time to smile + Moisturize every. single. day

Do you know folks can tell you’re ashy without even looking at your skin? Indeed you can exude ashiness by simply failing to take the necessary steps to make yourself happy. Folks who have no joy are ashy in spirt. Once you come to terms with the fact that life isn’t just going to hand over happiness on a silver platter you must endeavor to create your own happiness and spread it to whomever you meet. So smile and moisturize every day. Head to toe. Some great options include Eurcerin Advanced Repair Cream for the body, Burt’s Bees Tips and Toes kit for the hands and feet, and EOS lip balm for the lips.

Step 6. Write

Writing is cathartic. If there are things you’d like to have no matter how big or small, write them down. If you are feeling whatever it is you are feeling write about it. Release it. Write down small and attainable goals every single day.

Step 7. Take Your Vitamins

As I’m still breastfeeding, I take prenatal + DHA vitamins, but Walmart’s Hello Bello vitamins are Non-GMO Project Verified, USDA Organic and never tested on animals. There are tons of options so shop around here to find a vitamin that suits your wellness goals.

I’ll end on this final note.

Step 8.  Never give up

As long as you endeavor to keep trying, no matter the obstacle, the light you seek shall be found. Enjoy the process. Ignore the outside noise that tells you all the things you should and could be. You are right where you are meant to be, and you will get to where you are going in due time. So relax, smile, take care of your body,  and most importantly, moisturize.
