Black Girl Magic: 11 year-old Becomes Youngest Editor in Chief on

Marley Dias, the 11-year-old girl who created the #1000BlackGirlBooks hashtag last year  has now been named editor-in-chief to her own digital ‘zine called Marley Mag. The magazine is a collaboration with with Elle Magazine and will be featured on the Elle site.

#1000BlackGirlBooks book drive was started by book-lover, Miley, who wanted to collect at least 1000 books which featured Black girl’s as the main character. She was tired of reading books that didn’t feature black girls.  Marley was able to collect at over 4,000 books, and now, due to her efforts, she’s living out dreams:

I, Marley Emerson Dias, have gotten the chance of a lifetime. I’m creating a brand-new zine for one of the most-read magazines in the world. My passion for books has changed my life. Between school, homework, tests, and play time with my friends, I have worked my butt off to create this space where black girls’ stories are read and celebrated in schools and libraries.

Congrats, Marley!
