It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Fall is here and there are tons of makeup releases to keep us beat as things begin to cool down. Fall is my favorite time of year because, ooo girl, the colors! Rich, luxurious colors will be hitting the shelves and I. AM. HERE FOR IT! I’ve combed the internet curating a list of black-girl-friendly brands bringing that new new to you, boo. Check out what’s new in beauty for your melinated magic.
Flesh Beauty
Flesh Beauty is a new beauty brand founded by Linda Wells, former founding editor of Allure (a position from which she was let go in 2015 after a 24-year run) and current chief creative officer at Revlon. The line is no doubt one of the most inclusive I’ve seen of late. Indeed, Flesh Beauty might give Fenty Beauty a run for their money in terms of marketing. While most brands have made the “40 shades” claim a trend, Flesh’s inclusivity spans across their entire collection of products. Hell, I was sold the minute I visited their home page:
The company tagline reads: “Beauty and Makeup Products In Every Color of You,” and based on what I’ve seen so far, that tagline may not just be words on a page. Be sure to shop the collection at your local Ulta or online HERE.
Lisa received some of their products to sample, so stay tuned for a dedicated review on her Youtube channel in the next week or so.
Juvia’s Place
This brand has solidified itself as the ultimate in pigmentation when it comes to eyeshadow palettes for dark complexions. By the way, Juvia’s just launched in 500 Ulta stores nationwide as the first black-owned beauty brand to grace the shelves of Ulta Beauty. Their most recent Afrique palette gives us Coming to America (Your Queen to Be) teas while also being extremely versatile for everyday wear. Get your hands on this fabulous and affordable palette. Shop HERE and use code LISA to save 10%
Juvia’s is also slaying the glow game with loose highlighters. The Nubian and Royalty set are blindingly beautiful! Our Editor, Lisa, reviewed all four shades from the collection HERE. See her in Royalty below:
Danessa Myricks
Speaking of illuminators, Danessa Myricks (Celebrity makeup-artist and educator) is bringing the heat with Love & Light Beauty Oil. She has introduced two new shades, Blaze (warm bronze) and Flicker (frosty rose gold). Wear on bare skin, all over the body, mixed in with your foundation or moisturizer. This is a great multi-use item for your beauty collection.
Pat McGrath
Our Billion Dollar auntie has been snatching out coins with these Mothership palettes. Well, she’s at it again, yall. Mothership V includes everything I love about Fall. That purple shade, though? I need this one. In fact, we all need this one. Treat yourself, queens. Make sure you have your coins ready, though. This palette will run you a whopping $125 a pop. Buy yours HERE.
Hourglass Cosmetics
One of my all-time favorite bougie brands, Hourglass, has debuted a new mascara that is giving lift, length, and volume to your lashes in a major way! The new Caution! Extreme Lash Mascara boasts all of this plus it’s smudge-proof. Just look at the before and after then tell me this isn’t worth a buy.
Josephine
Josephine is a new one for me but I can see it becoming a favorite if for no other reason than the skin care. Yes, Josephine has liquid lipstick, colorful eyeliners, and poppin cream shadows, but that radiance serum…sis. With the weather getting cool and dry, we’re going to need to keep our melanin moisturized. The Rose Supreme Organic Radiance Serum is perfect for those suffering from eczema, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. Magic in a bottle, y’all!
Fenty Beauty
Fenty is back with several new releases for fall. The first two include blinging out our mugs for the upcoming holidays. Lipgloss is poppin’ with the new Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Diamond Milk. The same formula we all love with a glittery, yet comfortable shimmer that will have your lips shining bright like a diamond.
Add that diamond shine to your face and body with a new Diamond Bomb All Over Diamond Veil. It’s an explosion of frosty shine that gives a sophisticated sheen with just enough glitter to catch the light. Looks amazing on deep skin tones too! Just look it on our Editor, Lisa, who reviewed it in THIS post.
Fenty also launched four new Stunna Lip Paints. At $24 a pop these might on the more expensive end of your lipstick collection, but that won’t stop true makeup hoarders, will it?
Lisa reviewed two of the four colors HERE, however, Unviel looks to be the winner on her skin tone. See here:

Mented

Mented, the brand with a nude for every skin tone, is back with a Fall lip trio. Rust tones, hot chocolates, and a lil pumpkin spice are all present in this trio as an ode to the best season of the year. The Mented lipstick formula is moisturizing, so this isn’t your transfer-proof matte lip. It’s more of what we need rather than what we want, and I enjoy. Shop the collection HERE
Koyvoca
Now, we still need to stay snatched and sculpted even in the cooler months. Koyvoca has just what you need to contour those cheekbones. Boasting one of the deepest contour shades on the market, like legit Nyma Tang needs this one in her life, the cream contour stick (6 shades) is bendable and stays put all day long. Top that contour off with a bit of bronzer as well. The Beach Filter Bronzer (4 shades) comes in a ton of shades because black girls like to bronze too, sis! Koyvoca may become your fave brand for defining your face and I am here for it!
NYX
NYX Cosmetics teamed up with Influencer Alissa Ashley to create a new foundation with an impressive 45 shades! The Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Full Coverage Foundation definitely has a shade for nearly everyone, going as deep as our girl Nyma Tang! Lightweight waterproof, and pigmented AF, according to NYX, 24-hour oil control AND it’s transfer proof. What more can you ask for at such an affordable price point?!
Vera Moore
Actress turn beauty mogul, Vera Moore, aims to flex on the girls with flawless natural looking makeup. That’s what she created her own line of cream and liquid concealers. The Concealer Plus shade range is geared towards WOC and features corrector shades as well. It’s classic, fly, and timeless.
Laws of Nature Cosmetics
Last but not least we have Laws of Nature Cosmetics. I know a lot of our aunties have boasted about “not needing makeup” and not being into the cake up, so this one is for those of you who prefer a no-makeup makeup look. LoNC’s Next Foxy Finish Mineral Creme Foundation is “foundation that feeds the skin”. That’s right, y’all! This foundation is infused with skincare to nourish your skin with clean ingredients and none of the things we aren’t here for.
So there you have it, a full list of black-girl-friendly brands to add a lil something to your makeup collection. Make sure you stretch before you reach for that wallet. Oh and, don’t forget to use code LISA when checking out on the Juvia’s Place website.
Deuces!
I’m a 30-something, fun loving blogger who enjoys makeup, plus size fashion, and all things girly, glam, and fabulous! I am a naturalista as well as an advocate for paleo eating (AIP). While much of my focus is on beauty, I will be chronicling my weight loss and diet, as well as my natural hair journey. I hope that I can inspire women to give themselves some TLC. Life is so fleeting. We have to remember to take time to enjoy it.
