Bantu Knots-Outs are the bane of many a naturalista’s existence. Once you master a bantu-knot out, however, it will be as though the natural hair Gods opened up their gates and welcomed you home. A bantu-knot out done well is a glorious glorious thing.
According to Ebony Magazine, Bantu Knots, or Chiney Bumps (in the Carribean), is a hairstyle originated by the Zulu people.
“Bantu knots also are known as Zulu knots because the Zulu people, a Bantu ethnic group, are the originators of the look we love and wear today,” says NaturallyCurly Branded Content Editor Gerilyn Hayes.”

The hairstyle is achieved by parting the hair into even sections. If you have short hair like mine, you’ll want to do smaller sections. Next, gather the hair at the base of each section and twist/wrap the hair into a knot. You can secure the ends with a bobby pin to hold the style, however, I usually skip this step as I only create the knots to take them down for a bantu knot-out style.
