Here’s How I Got Rid Of My Dark Spots Easily and Relatively Quickly

Whenever I am on my Instagram Stories, someone inevitably asks about my skincare routine. Although I have a post about the best skincare products to get rid of dark spots HERE, folks are still always interested in knowing my full routine.  I do use a combination of products, so I can’t really say which item on this list is the most responsible for the change in skin clarity and texture, but I will say being diligent and consistent has worked volumes for me.  So here is my fail-proof method for brightening my skin. It did take me about 6 months to see a significant change, but if you are consistent you will start to see a change within a month.

I also want to note that I am not a skincare expert. I’m just a regular woman who was tired of hating my skin, so I started experimenting, asking questions, and reading up on the best products for my oily/acne prone skin. I, of course, recommend that you visit your dermatologist and/or esthetician for a more personalized routine for your skincare concerns.

Without further ado, here’s

How I Got Rid Of My Dark Spots

1. Cleansing + Exfoliation

My morning cleansing routine can consist of 2-3 steps.

I use an oil cleanser, followed by a gel/foaming cleanser, and finish with a gentle exfoliant.

My favorite Oil Cleanser is

Dermalogica PreCleanse

I’m not as particular when it comes to gel/foaming cleansers. I use whatever my skin likes at the moment, or whatever is handy.

Here are a few I like:

PCA SKIN Oily/Problem Facial Wash

Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash (this one is particularly effective at removing makeup, but don’t get it in your eyes because it stings from the tea-tree oil).

Exfoliating every day is key. I don’t love facial brushes (unless the bristles are silicone) as most are difficult to clean properly and are too abrasive for everyday use. My favorite exfoliators are:

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant (doubles as a cleanser so you can skip the foaming cleanser if you use this product)

or

Pixi by Petra Peel & Polish

After cleansing, and about twice a week, I swap out my normal daily exfoliant for one of these:

Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon Pads

2. Toner

Pixi Glow Tonic with Aloe Vera & Ginseng

3.  Serums

After toning, I rub in each serum, allowing 20 seconds to pass before applying the next one. I don’t have time to sit around and let each serum fully absob before putting on the next one, but if you have the time, I’d say give it about a minute between each serum and/or essence.

Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

According to the Soko Glam Website:

Snail mucin has the ability to repair everything from dry patches, to acne breakouts while helping zap hyperpigmentation, so with loyal use your skin will glow to look its healthiest.

I use it after I tone, and my skin loves it.

You must must must use a vitamin C serum. You’ll want to choose a vitamin C serum with 20% Vitamin C.

My favorites are:

or

I’ve only been using the following serum for the last 3 weeks, but I am already here for it. It’s made with 90% honey extract and contains niacinamide which is known for lightening dark spots.

4.  Tumeric Face Mask:

Tumeric is a natural skin brightener. Use 1-2 times a week after cleansing and before toner and serum. To use I just place a few shakes of the powder into the cap, add a few drops of water, mix with y finger, apply to my face, then rinse off after about 20 minutes.

5. Moisturizer/SPF

The sun’s rays contain harmful free radicals that can and will cause premature aging and darken those dark spots we work so hard to eradicate! Always always always use a sunscreen as the final step in your daytime skincare.

You’re going to have to play around with what your skin likes, but I’ve found that by increasing the moisture I’ve been able to balance my skin’s oil production.

Right now I’m loving the Olay Whips moisturizer with SPF 25, although you typically want to stick with SPF 30-45, I have found that when the SPF is higher than 30, it leaves a white caste. This product functions as a moisturizer and SPF in one.
