Save Your Coins, Sis. Here are 10 Nonsticky + Affordable Alternatives to Fenty Beauty Body Lava

When Fenty Beauty dropped their Body Lava shimmer lotion, I swore up and down I wouldn’t buy them. I really did. I love a good body shimmer as much as the next girl, but I couldn’t quite grasp why I should drop $59 on a body shimmer.

But then one day I found myself in Sephora, during the VIB rouge sale no less, and it happened. The Sephora Gods cast a spell on my senses and sure enough, I snagged, first the pink shade, WHO NEEDS CLOTHES?! and then second, the bronze shade, BROWN SUGAR. After having and testing them for over a week, all I can say is: Save your coins, sis.

Are these shimmering body oils pretty? Yes, you will glow and you will glitter. But at $59 a pop, I can’t co-sign on the price and the sticky-feel of these body luminzers. I’ve heard that a little bit goes a long way, but no matter how little I use, I can’t seem to get these to not leave a “tacky” feeling on my skin, a sensation  I know will annoy the hell out of me on hot summer days.

So that being said, I’ve done some research and found some great, non sticky alternatives you can try instead.

FENTY BEAUTY BODY LAVA DUPES

 

1. Body oil +loose shimmer powder.

This method isn’t my favorite because body/baby oil can be on the greasy side and may cause the shimmer powder to transfer onto your clothes. But, it’s worth a shot. Some of my favorite Shimmer Powders can be purchased HERE + HERE.

2. Aloe Vera Gel + Shimmer Powder

 

This method, I’ve read, is fail-proof. Aloe Vera gel dries down cleanly and doesn’t rub off on your clothes. Try it with one of the shimmers listed above, and an Aloe Vera Gel HERE.

3.  Wet n wild Megaglo Liquid Highlighter $ 4.99

While these Wet n’ Wild colors come in a variety of shades, Goddess Glow is the only shade I can definitely say leaves a sparkle on the skin. The others give more a sheen than a sparkle. I encourage you to stop at your local drugstore to give them a shot, or snag one or two shades HERE.

4. Danessa Myricks Beauty Illuminating Veil $22

Danessa Myricks can do no wrong in my book, seriously. As a pro makeup artist as well as a businesswoman, I am here for ALL of her black girl magic. The Illuminating veil provides a beautiful shimmer to the face as well as the body. Put it all over and step into the sun and just watch the magic happen. I’ve tried the shade “Attraction,” but I plan to buy a few more to compare. Shop HERE.

 

5.  GYPSY WANDERLUST GLITTER LOTION $16.95

If you’re not about that mixing life, this product does it for it. Mixing biodegradable glitter with aloe vera gel, I’ve heard this gives all the glitter you will ever need. If you need more moisture try mixing it with your lotion of choice. I haven’t tried this myself, but I’ll be grabbing a bottle before summer to give it a shot. Buy it HERE.

6. MLN Beauty Luminous Body Gleam $18

7. Lush Cosmetics Shimmy Shimmy Body Butter $8.95

According to the Lush Cosmetics site:

This is another aloe vera-based shimmer gel and the Amazon reviews are pretty amazing. I’m going to order one right now and test it out for myself. It comes in 4 shades, too. Buy it HERE.

9. Glimmer Goddess Organic Bronze Shimmer Whipped Body Butter $23

According to the Product description:

These don’t come out for a few more days, but online reviews have attested to their glittery non-sticky magic.
