Folks Are Mad About The Way JCrew Styled This Model’s Hair [PIC INSIDE]
Am I the only black woman in the world who doesn’t get mad about this kind of stuff? We say we embrace natural hair, but God forbid our edges not be slicked down to the Gods, chile. All hell breaks loose!
Remember when we were mad at Victoria Secret last year for these pictures?
Looks like JCrew/Madewell has committed a similar offense:
And folks are none too pleased:
Nah we all know.. all it takes is some #edgeControl, detangler, & bun that bih up. This ad would’ve been popping. They’re wrong @joyseals @brhokensilence @justmedcelly pic.twitter.com/yPHAO4R61u

Yet, we liked and praised Kerry Washington for these photos last month in Allure Magazine:
I know our natural hair is sacred. I know it, but sometimes, some of us, just don’t care THAT much. In fact, I think we care this much because white folks, traditionally, have made us feel that we HAD to, and that our natural kinky/coily edges must be tamed in for for us to be acceptable or presentable. Now we’ve taken on the burden and it’s too damn much. I think the ladies fit in with Jcrew’s style. Do I like my hair to be pulled back adD neat, yeah. Do I care if others don’t? Not really. Do I feel as though unlaid edges represents us poorly? Nope. It sounds like a bunch a respectability BS to me, and I’m not with it. Edges unlaid or laid, the world views us the same.
What say you? You mad or nah?
