What To Expect When You Stay At This 5-Star Black-Owned Bed & Breakfast

Black-Owned Bed and Breakfast

Listen, when my in-laws offered to host me and my girlfriends for a weekend getaway at their black-owned Bed & Breakfast, I was too excited. They’ve only owned Captain Farris house on Cape Cod for about a year and a half, but they have already stamped their magic all over the property.

The Best Black Owned Bed & Breakfast

Patronizing more black-owned establishments is something I really take into consideration. So many of us are unsung heroes, and I think it’s high time we work overtime to change the narrative surrounding businesses created and run by us. While chain hotels are always easy, I think there is something to be said about a Mom & Pop establishment, especially one run as well as Captain Farris House Bed & Breakfast. It’s a hidden gem.

Captain Farris House, a home away from home

Captain Farris House is located in Yarmouth Massachusetts which is considered central Cape Cod. The ferry to other islands like Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket is only about a 15-minute drive away, so you will want to have access to a vehicle to really explore the cape.  Since I live about an hour an 15 minutes away I made the super easy drive down and had the time of my life.

We stayed in the Elisha Jenkins Suite which has two bedrooms and can sleep up to four people. This suite is located off to the side of the main building, so it’s really like having your own little apartment.black-owned-hotel-bed-breakfast

The next day, we couldn’t wait to have breakfast. Breakfast is served daily from 8:30-9:45 am and it’s fresh and made from scratch.

Inside the main building, you’ll find the lounge, the kitchen, and two dining areas for breakfast.

We ate to our heart’s content and then went off to explore the Cape! Before heading out, though,  I did take a few moments to myself and sat outside just take in the beautiful grounds.

I didn’t rest for long, though. We drove all over, taking in the sights (and of course I made a stop at the Sephora in Hyannis), and before we knew it was time to eat again. And since it’s the Cape, we had to go for traditional fried seafood. I had clam strips, while Ashly and Ty had fried scallops and lobster.

All in all, we had a 5-star experience at this black-owned bed and breakfast. Our hosts, Jeff and Carol, were amazing (I know this, of course), the food was amazing, and our suite was more than what we could have asked for. To say we had a blast is an understatement. In fact, I just booked a weekend stay for Valentine’s day!

    1. Lucky Brand jeans. but they were a gift!

  2. No idea when you posted this. But Im planning a trip to that area for next spring with my 3-nager. I actually ran across their B&B and was disappointed that they dont allow kids to stay. (I get it they break shit and I wouldn’t neither). Was wondering if you could give any pointers on black owned places to stay (kid friendly) and dine.

    1. The only other black-owned B&B on cape cod is On Martha’s vineyard and it’s called Oaks Bluffs Inn
