Last Week She Attended Howard Homecoming, This Week She’s a Sought-After Model. #BlackGirlMagic Is Real
Talk about being at the right place at the right time.
Anok Yai is a 19 year-old college student at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. She’s originally from South Sudan and moved to the US in 2000. She attended Howard University’s homecoming and was asked to take a couple of photos for the Instagram account The SUNK.
The photos went viral and Anok’s Twitter and Instagram accounts swelled with new followers.
“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time. At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something.”Anok Yai told The Boston Globe.
Over 31,000 people have liked the photo on Anok’s personal IG Page.
The photos have caught the eyes of more than just new followers. According to The Insider, she has been contacted by three modeling agencies since homecoming. Anok shared her thoughts on modeling with Yahoo! in a recent interview.
“I’ve always thought about modeling. It’s a dream that I’ve wanted for a long time, but always pushed to the side because of self-doubt and distractions from school. Now I see this dream as something a lot more obtainable”
