“I’m grounded in who I am.” Insecure Star, Yvonne Orji, Shares Why She’s A 33-Year-old Virgin

Nigeria- born comedienne, Yvonne Orji,  is a 33 year-old virgin.  Orji, who plays Molly in the hit HBO series, Insecure, told PEOPLE magazine that she intends to remain a virgin until marriage.

“I’m grounded in who I am…Before any of [the fame] happened, I sat down with myself and with God and thought, when I make it, how do you want me to represent you while I’m here?”

If you’re intrigued by her decision, Yvonne welcomes the questions

“People ask about it because they’re curious, or they may not understand…How will they ever get understand if I don’t talk about it? I can inform your curiosity, as opposed to everyone being in the dark and just sort of creating their own narrative about it.”

Interestingly enough, Yvonne’s character, is sexually active, owns her body, and makes no apologies about it. In real life, Yvonne feels just as strongly about being a virgin. Yvonne told Breakfast Club hosts that when she is asked about being a virgin:

“I don’t hide it.”

This isn’t the typical “born-again virgin” scenario like Megan Good. Megan became a born-again Christian and virgin then remained celibate until she got married. Yvonne has never had a sexual partner.  She’s made a commitment to herself and God and has stuck to it.  She’s a great example for standing in one’s truth.

But not everyone thinks so. There have been plenty of opinions shared about her decision all over social media. These opinions range from support, indifference, to all out shaming:
