Marc Jacobs Uses Black People To Appropriate Hip Hop Culture For His Fall 2017 Line

Marc Jacobs is known for white peopling. In his Spring 2017 show, his models were featured with dreadlocks. More DREAD than locks but I digress. Dreadlocks in a fashion show doesn’t seem problematic, right? But not more than one or two black models could be found in that show. Evidently, only white models should rock Strawberry Shortcake-inspired “locks”.

Marc Jacobs responded in classic white privileged fashion with the following colorblind bullshit. *eye roll*

Marc Jacobs

He fully absolved HIMSELF of any accountability for being culturally insensitive as well as appropriating.

Until now.

With the launch of his new Fall 2017 line, Jacobs is literally capitalizing on his shady antics from last year while trying to “placate negro rage”. Not only is the line  “hip-hop inspired” but he has been given the “thumbs up” for being more inclusive and offering a more ” purposeful acknowledgment of cultural inspirations”. Half of the models were white and the other half were women of color. Oh and he had a full posse of black rappers to add to his credibility.

See below for his interview with Instyle.

Apparently in the hip hop streets from which Marc Jacobs hails, there were white women all up and through the movement.

And we should also give him props for stealing yet again. Or is it not thievery if you toss some black folks in the mix?

Marc Jacobs

Have no fear Uncle Ruckus…I mean Uncle “L” aka LL. Cool J, is all on board with the collaboration:

marc-jacobs-2017-fall-fashion“There’s an argument to be made that we should all be free to express ourselves, but I think it’s good when you include artists who lifted the culture up. This is great, because instead of Marc just running with the culture, he’s grabbing some people who are official and a part of that, and I think he should be commended for it. Instead of appropriation, it’s a collaboration.”

Some folks should stick to rapping, acting and taking their shirts off.

While we can appreciate that Marc Jacobs wanted to make amends for totally missing the mark last year, we can’t help but feel that now wanting to make money off of African American culture. is, well, fucked up.
