In 2007, P&G launched their, My Black is Beautiful initiative.  MBIB is an effort, on the part of the brand, to actively promote inclusion and celebrate black and brown people. According to their site:

My Black is Beautiful was created in 2007 by a group of visionary black women at P&G to spark a broader dialogue about black beauty. Our mission is to ignite and support a sustained national conversation by, for and about black women. Together, we can serve as the catalyst for a movement that effects positive change.

While depressing, the video doesn’t display anything out of the ordinary for black families here in the US. Others, however, disagree, and have threatened to boycott P&G. See some of the comments below:

The racial divide is clear, we know it, we’ve seen it. But how do we get beyond it? As much as I am pro-black, I am not pro-separation ( at least not yet), so I often find myself trying to find some sort of common ground. I don’t feel it necessary to prove to folks who deny racism that it exists, so trying to convince the nay-sayers that what we say is true ain’t the answer for me. Still,  there’s got to be some sort of something that can be done so that the when non-minorities see the reality of black lives in america, they do not become angry at us for speaking our truth.

I don’t know, y’all, but I am tired.

  1. There is nothing you can do. That’s the way white victimization works. If they see anything as pro-black they automatically equate that to anti-white. If we say we suffer at the hands of some, they get defensive because they feel we are accusing them all. They cannot relate to our experiences so they deny that these experiences exist, because anything outside of themselves is #fakenews . Live your beautiful black life and continue to speak your truth and believe that God will guide the way! You can’t find common ground with people who don’t want to share space with you.

  2. I see nothing wrong with the campaign. I don’t know why their is always so much backlash when black people make a point of pointing out the continued plight of black people in America! As long as black people don’t express nor exhibited any kind of strength in numbers opposing the status quo of behavior treatment from the general public at large. But when black people want fair and equal treatment that becomes a major problem with the general public!
When will America as a whole get it, all of its citizens should and have a right to equal and fair treatment for all, all the time!
