These Black Beauty Bloggers Switched Foundation To Make This Point

Nigerian beauty blogger, Ronke Raji, swapped foundation with her Sudanese friend/model, Nyajouk Deng to highlight the importance of loving the skin you are in.

In the video Ronke Raji states:

“When I was putting on the makeup, I just thought to myself, people need to really be confident and comfortable with their skin tone…Your skin tone is given to you for a reason. Don’t be ashamed of it, don’t be sad that you have it, because at the end of the day even if you have somebody else’s skin tone, if they put somebody else’s skin tone on you, they’re still going to have something to say.”

By swapping foundations, Ronke Raji wanted to point how ridiculous you might look if you were any shade lighter or darker than you naturally are.

But can I be honest with you all? I was really uncomfortable watching this video. I understand the intent, but seeing a beautiful dark color painted on someone’s face for the sake of making a point, feels wrong. I don’t like the idea of our features ever being used for a statement, no matter the intent. The history of black face in America is deep and it is hurtful, always will be, so anything that even remotely resembles it will hit a nerve.

The response to this video has been really positive on Ronke Raji‘s channel, so maybe I’m in the minority on this one.

What say you? Did they make their point or did they miss the mark on this one?

No, I’m with you on this one. I understand the intent, but I couldn’t bring myself to finish the video. There are better, more creative, less painful ways to communicate this message. :-/

For me, they missed the mark. Of course they look silly as another shade, we can see your neck and shoulders and know what shade you are. I honestly thought the other girl was that light before I saw her shoulders and clicked on the article. I mean i get it, love the skin you’re in. I was teased horribly as a child abour my skintone only to grow up and wish to be darker
