Miss Black Texas Was Called a Black Bitch By Police Chief Before Being Arrested For Refusing To Apologize To Him

If Carmen S. Ponder’s story of injustice at the hands of law enforcement can center around any one quote, it would this one by Malcolm X:

“The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.”

This fact has been proven time and again, and on May 20th 2017, Ms. Ponder received a personal affirmation of this plight.

carmen s ponder 2According to The Root, Carmen, Miss Black Texas U.S ambassador 2016 and intern with the Hunt County, Texas, District Attorney’s Office, was confronted by an irate off duty police chief named Kerry Crews after signaling and passing him on the road while he was teaching his 14 year old daughter how to drive (illegally). He followed her to a Walmart parking lot and began to shout, curse, and degrade her over passing him (LEGALLY) on the road. He demanded an apology, and when Carmen refused, he called for backup.

Lee Merritt, Carmen’s attorney) brought this incident to the attention of the public via Facebook stating:

“Saturday May 20th, Ms. Black Texas (Carmen) found herself stuck behind a stop-and-go driver. After enduring several abrupt stops, lane drifting and sudden accelerations, Carmen politely signaled and went around the sporadic driver. She found a parking space, gathered her belongings and prepared to make a quick run into Walmart but she was stopped. The same car found her in the parking lot and began berating her with profanity demanding to know why she maneuvered past the vehicle.

Carmen spent one night in jail. Her lawyer, Lee Merritt, isn’t wasting any time in working to hold this police officer accountable:

In a statement to The Root, Merritt said that justice is a must in this case. His office is demanding Crews’ resignation and filing criminal charges against him and the attending officers for assault, wrongful arrest and official corruption.

The Police Department declined to comment when The Root reached out for a statement, however, NBCDFW.com has reported that Police Chief Kerry Crews has been placed on administrative duty while an outside organization hired by the city investigates the incident:

Since the incident there have been a number of statements made about the details of the incident, and many of these details do not align with the statements provided by Chief Crews and the responding officer. As such, the City is engaging an outside entity to conduct an investigation into the incident to objectively review and determine the facts.

For the benefit of the investigation, and in keeping with common practice, Chief Crews will be placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. This is in no way an admission of any wrongdoing and should not be perceived as a disciplinary action. The work of the Commerce Police Department is essential to the community, and it is beneficial to both Chief Crews, the officers, and the City to allow him to serve without the distraction of an investigation clouding his day-to-day management of the department. Disciplinary action, if warranted, cannot be taken until after the investigation has concluded.

At this time, the City of Commerce will hold all additional comments until the investigation has progressed.”

This is disgusting on all levels. I am so sick and tired of the way cops flaunt their authority. It is sickening.

Praying the independent investigation is not filled with some of his buddies as well. This is someone who thinks because he has a little bit of power that he can do whatever he pleases. If he is in the wrong, he should still be treated as if his shit don’t stink. Such a blatant abuse of power. This and the assault of a reporter at the hands of Greg Gianforte (who is running for Congress) are prime examples of how those with an inch of power or clout think they can get away with anything, even criminal activity. I am so sick of this crap. This right now feels like one of the top problems with our country but it keeps being swept under the rug. People in positions of leadership and power not knowing how to conduct themselves properly. The thing that gets me is these men think they are well within their God-given right to behave in such a manner! We all know that if the tables were turned, they would cry about how foul our justice system is.

  3. Yes they should be fired an retirement revolked…this is acceptable in this day and time….keep your bigotry at home..

  4. Will the officer be ticketed and fined for the illegally teaching his daughter to drive on a public road? Nothing has been said about this.

  5. Stephanie Andrews says:

I’m tired of officers thinking they are above the law. This was an abuse of power and a reflection of the man’s racism. A poor role model for his child.

The overt racism occurring across this country appears to be accepted by some, starting with our disgrace of a president.

  6. This is a sad story, Nw they (police) will b in Co- hoots with the cover up. May GOD she’d his lite upon this matter & the truth cm to lite

  8. GOD DONT LIKE UGLY, PERIOD POINT, BLAMK!!
Galatians 5:7 says, ” BE NOT DECEIVED, GOD IS NO MOCKED, AND WHATSOEVER A MAN SOWETH, THAT SHALL HE ALSO REAP”. GOD is a GOD that sits high and looks, HE misses ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. That police has a daughter, he will reap what he sowed.

  9. Adline Codadeen says:

I hope they get fired and the young lady should also sue the police officer and the polic force for the way she was treated, wrongful arrest, humiliating her and just because they are police officers who think they are above the law.
