Five Reasons Our First Lady is the BEST First Lady EVER

Y’all. *sigh* Y’AAAAAAALL….This is it! That’s right, January 20 marks Barack Obama’s last day in the White House and he’s taking the kids and wife with him. First Lady Michelle Obama has been a breath of fresh air, the embodiment of an affirmative nod, and has done me and many others proud over the last 8 years. Sasha and Malia have been so refreshing as well, and you can see that the president and first lady have done an excellent job with them. I, for one, am going to miss them terribly.  As many of us prepare to weep as OUR First Family makes way for Trump and his administration, here are 5 things Aunty Levaughn, as I affectionately call her, has shown and proved that she’s the BEST First Lady to have ever lived.

1. She’s been our president’s ACE and it’s written all over the both of their faces….for the past 8 years.

One of my favorite things about this first couple, is that the president and first lady got a good thing going, and they couldn’t hide it if they tried. She has stood beside him in pride, behind him in support, and sometimes in front of him as his biggest and most effective hype woman. The two of them together is so sickeningly cute and seeing them love up on each other makes me so proud.

2. Her “Let’s Move” initiative really DID transform lives.

Several of our past first ladies have taken up causes that, though they looked good on paper, didn’t really affect the masses (gardening, beautification, and the like), Mrs. Obama got to the heart of the nation: OUR CHILDREN. The “Let’s Move” campaign is a direct effort to get young people off of the couch and leading active and healthy lifestyles. You can see some of the changes her campaign has made in schools around the country. From salad bars in schools that only served hot lunches that were packed with sodium and icky stuff, to removing unhealthy snack options from vending machines, Michelle Obama has gotten kids around the country to be more aware of healthier alternatives, and I live for it!

3. The First Kids are DOPE, and it’s because of their mama.

You’ve heard it time and time again and you will CONTINUE to hear it, there have been no major scandals coming out about Sasha and Malia, they’re not out here doing the most, you seldom even see them! Sasha is going off to college and her sister is just out here being a squeaky clean teen. Who do you think is responsible for that? Look no further than their mother. She has set an amazing example for them and has been their biggest supporter.

4. She is a Fashion Icon for the Ages.

Let’s all just take a moment to Marvel at the gorgeousness that is our First Lady Michelle Obama….

If she don’t stop serving the American people these presidential patties. #gagging #firstladycakes 🙂 Our first Lady has been nothing short of amazing in just about every single outfit she’s been photographed in. She has given us accessible style from J. Crew and Black House White Market, to designer duds that are worth more than my home….like the rose gold gown she’s pictured in above. She’s one of the first wives of a president that I have ever seen who upstages her husband at every state dinner, and looks so good that not even HE can feel any type of way about it!

5. She’s shown us all how to be gracious under pressure.

Over the last 8 years, I have read and heard some very cruel things said about the first lady. Things that I am confident wouldn’t have been said about a white first lady. Still, she has been a class act through it all. She’s never let them see her sweat,  and we’ve never seen her cry or tweet about it*pauses to sip tea*.  She has, on the contrary, been positive, brave, and unapologetic in her authenticity.  I admire her SO MUCH for how she’s represented the country AND black women, while supporting the most powerful leader in the free world.

Honestly, I don’t even know what else to say other than I am truly going to miss this First Family, more than I have ever missed a first family before. They have become part of the country’s history, but my life story as well. I can now say that in MY lifetime, there has been a black family in the White House, and they look like they belonged there EVERY DAY. Many of us still can’t say that when we go into the office each morning.  I’m so sad to see them go, but I am excited for what lies ahead for them, especially for our First Lady, Michelle Obama. Thank you Mrs. Obama for giving us pride, inspiration, and most of all HOPE.
