How To Get Rid of Dark Spots: 10 DIY Remedies for Hyperpigmentation

Raise your right hand if you currently have at least one dark spot on your face due an old or active pimple. Great, I know you can’t see me but I’ve got my hand raised, too. Which is why I’ve done some research and found these 10 DIY remedies for fading dark spots (aka hyperpigmentation). Go ahead and put your hand down and check out how you can start getting rid of your dark spots today.

 1. Water

Yup. You can’t avoid it. It’s good for you and good for your skin. I definitely don’t drink 8 glasses a day, and I think I read somewhere that not everyone needs that much, but drink a lot of it to keep your skin hydrated which is essential in the cell renewal process.

Just squeeze a few drops spots onto the affected areas on your skin, leave it on for about 15 minutes,  wash it off and apply your moisturizer with sunscreen.

3. Raw Potato

Cut up few slices, wet with a few drops of water, and then rub into affected areas. Leave it on your skin for about 10 minutes then wash off and apply your moisturizer with sun screen.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

I swear ACV is the cure for everything and everything. ACV is also a great astringent as well skin-lightening agent. Just mix equal parts AVC and water, pour onto a cotton ball, and apply to affected area. Leave on for a few minutes, rinse, and apply your moisturizer with sunscreen.

5. Turmeric

Mix Turmeric powder with water and honey and you’ve got a great skin mask that will not only help on balancing/exfoliating your skin, but will also help eliminate hyper pigmentation.

6. Strawberries and Oranges

If want new and fresher looking skin, take some freshly squeezed orange juice (or powdered orange peel), mix it with a strawberry paste and apply it to your skin as a mask. The strawberry seeds are small and act as gentle exfoliate as well. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and then wash it off and apply your moisturizer with sunscreen.

7. Milk (or Yogurt) and Honey

Honey, like ACV, has a million and one health benefits for your body including your skin. Lactic Acid, found in milk, helps to slough off dead skin. Combined these two are great agents in the battle against hyperpigmentation.

8. Tomato

Tomato acts a natural bleaching agent. Apply directly to your skin, leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse off and apply your moisturizer with sunscreen.

9. Bentonite clay

Mix powdered bentonite clay with a few dashes of apple cider vinegar. Apply to your face as a mask and let the magic ensue. This stuff is amazing at pulling out toxins, exfoliating, and improving the overall appearance of your skin.

10. Blueberries

Hyper pigmentation is often caused by acne. Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and great for keeping acne at bay. Ingest them daily, or apply to your skin as a mask.

  2. I didn’t know that so many common household items could be useful in renewing your skin! For instance, I didn’t know that apple cider vinegar could be rubbed on dark spots to help lighten them, but I’m glad that it’s supposed to be rubbed on the area and not consumed! I’ll have to try some of these out on my skin spots. Thanks for the tips!

  5. These all are best remedies for to get rid of dark spots. I have used turmeric and honey mixture and it work effectively. It provide a clear, smooth and looking glowing skin.

  6. Tomato paste mask. Mix bentonite clay (never use metal when mixing bentonite clay) with tomato paste for a great face mask. If too thick add a little ACV. Apply to clean skin. Leave on 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water
