11 Stunning Dark Skin Beauties From Tumblr’s Dark Skin Appreciation Day
Tumblr has dubbed today Dark Skin Appreciation Day and I’m here for it. All Day Everyday. Shout of to all of the dark skin beauties who stay flexin their melanin:
I am a dark-skinned black woman who was always dissed because of the era and time I grew up in!!! I was discriminated against by my own people who preferred light-skinned to my darkness!!! I am so proud to see my color of blackness being celebrated!!! Amen to websites like Lisa a la mode for the dignity that has made folks see the beauty that’s in us all!!!
I was dissed for being LIGHT !!! As the years gone by I have become darker but I’ll never forget the pain of all those negative comments. The worst was when a person I grew up with told me ” You think your cute because your light skinned ” !!!! Since I had NO self esteem because my 4 brothers drilled it in my head that I was UGLY ( why would they lie ? ) there was NO WAY I thought that way !!! The fact was that I was a little jealous of the rich chocolate brown skin …so smooth and luscious looking. Years later my brother told me that I was told I was ugly so I wouldn’t get a big head !!! Anyway, the other side of the spectrum of color isn’t so great either !!! Maybe if more people were surrounded by people who taught self acceptance then there would be LESS little girls growing up with low self esteem.
Or perhaps all of the spectrum is beautiful.
Oh my goodness! The woman in the 8th picture looks like Kerry Washington.
In my house dark skin appreciation is every day.
Thanks Lisa. Dark-skinned women aren’t represented as often or as positively as we deserve. Black is beautiful, no matter the shade. But yeah, I appreciate it when my mahogany sisters get some love?!
