Best Full Coverage Foundation: Revlon Colorstay Foundation vs. Covergirl Queen Collection Foundation

Best Full Coverage Foundation: Revlon Colorstay Foundation vs. Covergirl Queen Collection Foundation

I found myself in the market for a new foundation the other day, so I decided to try my hand at Covergirl Queen Collection’s All Day Flawless Liquid Foundation in the color True Ebony, which was a perfect match for my “NW45” skin tone.

If you are a woman of color, you know it’s always been a struggle to find drugstore foundations for us, but thanks to these two brands, our problems on the foundation front are solved (for the most part.)

Okay, onto my review. I had already owned Revlon’s Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin in the color Mahogany, so I knew comparing the two would be a must for you ladies who may suffer from the same skin issues I do.

Underneath my makeup, here is what I’m dealing with:

  • Discoloration/Hyperpigmentation from old acne
  • Acne Prone
  • Discoloration
  • Dark Circles
  • Oily McNasty

Dealing this these, of course, means my foundation has to do quite a bit of work to satisfy me. So without further ado, I give you the pros and cons of both of these brands.

Revlon Color Stay Foundation for Oily/Combination Skin

Pros:

  • Full Coverage
  • Buildable Coverage
  • ~$10 for 1 ounce of product
  • Good variety of shades available
  • Lasts all day
  • Stays mattes without the need for powder to set it
  • Since Revlon is sold in every drugstore, you can pretty much count on finding this foundation whenever wherever

Cons:

  • Smells kinds of “chemically”
  • WILL break you out if you are acne prone, so wash this off at night, FULLY
  • Kind of heavy, you feel it on your face.
  • It comes in a pour-out bottle, so you can’t really control how much comes out. I’ve wasted quite a bit of product having to pour it out.

Covergirl Queen Collection All Day Flawless Foundation

Pros:

  • Light. Feels really nice going on and almost feels like you’re not wearing any makeup
  • nice selection of color
  • Nice pump for controlled product release.
  • ~$9 for 1 ounce of product

Cons:

  • Medium coverage. I have to use a concealer in conduction with this product to attain full coverage
  • Doesn’t last all day. After about 4-5 hours your face is no longer “flawless.” So you’ll need to keep a compact of powder on hand to touch it up throughout the day
  • Limited availability. Covergirl queen collection is only available in some markets, so let’s say you’re vacationing somewhere random, you may or may not be able to find it in the local drugstore.

Winner:

Revlon Colorstay, hands down. I’ll keep cover girl on hand for daytime wear, but for all day coverage, Revlon is where it’s at.

  1. I love that you do pros and cons to the reviews… I just don’t fundamentally believe that any product is %100…. (is that okay to say?). The way I see it is that Revlon sounds great because you should be washing your face at night anyway!

    1. agreed! Thanks, Caroline! It feels great finding a drugstore foundation that actually works!

  2. They both look good but the Color Stay looks more natural. I’ve use the Revlon photo finish (I think). It works really good.

    1. Yeah, colorstay is def more natural, and great for a few hours of wear. Thanks so much for stopping by Trina! I’ll look into photofinish!

  3. Yes, girl!! The struggle is R-E-A-L! Let me know how you like CG!

  4. Absolutely hands down agree, I actually just did a post on this if you want to check it out. I’ve tried dozens of other foundations but just keep coming back to this particular one. Thanks for review. Only con I have with Revlon is that in the winter I have to mix cappuccino and caramel.

    1. Oh yeah? I also find that revlon forces me to have to do extra highlighting since it makes your face one color…which is good, i guess. Anyhoo, thanks for stopping by! xo

  5. What concealer do you use with the colorstay ? I like L A progirl but I can’t find the right concealer k

    1. I don’t use a concealer with it. It’s full coverage so I never needed to add anything else.
